Title: From Application to Match: Examining Socioeconomic Factors in Residency Placement
Description: Medical school grading and licensing exam performance are crucial components of the application to graduate medical education (GME) programs. While socioeconomic inequality, e.g., disparities in childhood household income, likely influences medical school grading (e.g., shelf exams) and licensing exam performance, less is known about its effects on non-standardized components of the residency application. Here, we present work in progress examining the influence of socioeconomic status on medical student extracurricular experiences and residency placement outcomes.
2nd project:
Led by: Gurleen Kaur, MD
Title: CardioNerds Academy: Training the Next Generation of Cardiovascular Educators
Description: The CardioNerds Academy is a year-long digital media and medical education fellowship dedicated to training the next generation of cardiovascular educators. The Academy brings together medical students, residents, fellows, and attendings, organized into four 鈥渉ouses鈥 that foster mentorship, collaboration, and community. Through digital scholarship and team-based projects, members create high-impact educational content while developing skills in scientific writing, infographic design, and podcast production鈥攇rounded in adult learning theory and digital media best practices. Now in its 5th year, the Academy features a revised curriculum tailored to the evolving landscape of digital education, with a continued emphasis on mentorship, community, and personal and professional growth.
